Buckle up people: Somebody's combined red wine and cold brew coffee, and not just accidentally in the bottom of a kitchen trash can. Seriously though, the smoothness of cold brew and the tanginess of red wine sounds like it could make for some magical flavors. Or at least a next-level buzz.
Cosmopolitan picked up on the cold brew-red wine combo, which is the brainchild of Apothic Wines and its head winemaker, Debbie Juergenson.  Apothic has already established itself as a company looking to shake things up in terms of traditional winemaking, with wines like the Apothic Red, which ages red wine in whiskey barrels. If you're one of the eight people in the world who hasn't heard of cold brew coffee yet, it's exactly what it sounds like — coffee that's made from grounds steeped in cold water instead of hot. Which means a much longer brew time (think 12-24 hours), but a smoother taste. And while it's hard to say exactly how that will pair with red wine, at least people on Twitter seem excited about the mix.  In terms of how we feel about this wine-coffee blend, we think it can really go either way. The idea of mixing up booze and coffee is cool taste-wise, but don't you usually drink red wine to chill at home after a long day, or when you're just hanging with a small group? Cold brew on the other hand seems like more of a FML-I'M-LATE-FOR-WORK-GET-ME-GOING-RIGHT-NOW-DAMN-IT kind of drink. But we'll see....
Are you down with this mellow buzz and coffee high combo? Or would you rather just keep to the sweeter coffee cocktails like the ones below? Let us know in the comments!  https://www.youtube.com/embed/d45AXukrAo0 See recipe. https://www.youtube.com/embed/jGV-Ue6x7gw See recipe.
