Ryan Reynolds Is Now ‘Proud Owner’ of Aviation American Gin

Deadpool, err Ryan Reynolds owns a booze company now, so everybody better get used to another stupidly handsome face slinging a liquor brand — although in-character the face wouldn't be that pretty. The company Reynolds purchased is gin producer Aviation American Gin, and according to the actor, it's hands down the best gin on the planet. Reynolds and Aviation, which is based in Portland, OR, both announced the news on various social media platforms, with Reynolds noting on his personal Twitter account that "In the long and in no way disastrous marriage of showbiz and alcohol, so happy to announce I’m the proud owner of a gin company..."

Aviation posted to its Twitter that it was excited about its new boss, who's an "Actor, producer, professional good-looking person."

Reynold's dive into the liquor market comes on the heels of a bunch of other celebrities endorsing, taking ownership, or starting their own liquor brands, including George Clooney's Casamigos Tequila, which he reportedly sold to British alcohol company Diageo for $1 billion. (Clooney will reportedly clear about $300 million from the sale.) Although tons of celebrities have made the same kinds of moves into liquor as Reynolds, they usually enter into much larger markets, such as tequila or vodka — according to a Distilled Spirits Council report, last year in the U.S. vodka sales hit $6.2 billion, American whiskey hit $3.4 billion, and gin made a relatively slim $895 million. Also, these celebrity liquor deals don't always turn out so well, as is evidenced by the collapse of Pharrell's Q Qream liquor and Donald Trump's — Mr. President's? — Trump Vodka. As far as planned changes to Aviation now that Reynolds is boss, it's hard to say for sure at this point what's going to happen. Maybe it'll be sold in combo cases with some chimichangas.
