More About This Drink

Before we jump into a little description of the Classic Tequila Sunrise recipe, here are some other delicious tequila cocktail recipes you'll probably enjoy just as much: the Paloma cocktail, the Pink Lemonade Margarita, the Pink Cadillac Margarita, the Classic Margarita, and the Paloma Mimosa. Now, according to the Tequila Sunrise wikipedia page, "The original Tequila Sunrise contained tequila, edi de cassis, lime juice and soda water and was served at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel, where it was created by Gene Sulit in the 1930s or 1940s." Way to go, Gene! You probably won't encounter that version of the Tequila Sunrise cocktail, however. As the Tequila Sunrise Wikipedia adds, "The more popular modern version of the cocktail contains tequila, orange juice, and grenadine and was created by Bobby Lozoff and Billy Rice in the early 1970s while working as young bartenders at the Trident in Sausalito, California north of San Francisco." And that is exactly the version we show you in the video above! There are tons and tons of Tequila Sunrise variations as well, including these: the Mango Tequila Sunrise, the Slushy Tequila Sunrise, and the Tequila Sunrise Mimosa. The Tequila Sunrise's history is not without its own share of dispute over what's fact and what's fiction. As Tales of the Cocktail Foundation notes, "Arizona’s Biltmore Bar also claims to be the original creator of the drink, around the same time period...." If you want to make it just right, many cocktail recipe sources claim that Jose Cuervo tequila is the only option for the drink mix. Make Me A Cocktail, for example, says that "When made properly, with fresh orange juice and homemade pomegranate grenadine, as well as the traditional Jose Cuervo tequila, it is actually a very refreshing and enjoyable beverage...." And if you're just looking for some wild Jose Cuervo cocktail recipes in general, here are a few crazy ones to try with your amigos. TEQUILA SUNRISE 1 1/2 oz. (45ml) Tequila 3 oz.
